Father's Day

Father's Day for Dale is going to be hard this year.  He lost his dad almost 3 months ago.  This is a very difficult time in our lives.  It's redefining.  When you lose a parent relatively young it seems you lose a big portion of yourself or who you thought you were.  He lost his mentor and the guy who understands where he is coming from.  No one can come close to replacing that lost feeling in him.  They were close.  They saw eachother nearly every day.  It is hard.

It's even hard for me.  Trying to deal with the grief is manageable at times, but sometimes hits you by surprise and completely takes your breath away.  We have definitely had our ups and downs.  It has affected every aspect of our lives.

I don't know how we will celebrate over the weekend.  I'm not putting a plan together.  I'm going to go with the flow and if Dale needs his time alone then we will give that to him and try to be as understanding as possible.

However, he is a father too and his boys feel the same way about him as he did of his dad.  So we will celebrate him as a daddy.  The daddy that makes the boy's eyes light up.  The one that makes pancakes on Saturdays.  The one they ask constantly about when he is away.  They can't wait to get home to him in the evenings.

He gets cheers if he is home when we get home and sighs of dissappointment if we beat him there.

Wyatt and Dale '06.  His first few months of being a dad.  Look at Wyatt hold his finger!

Weston looks so much like his biggest brother it is crazy.  The eye color is the biggest difference.  Weston is our brown eyed boy.

Marcus, Wyatt and Dale.  He can even make the dog smile.

More of Wyatt and Dale.

They want to be strong and tall like him.

This cracks me up every single time!

Some of the best dads around!

  1. Ah, nice post. I hope your husband has a nice day with his kids, and is not too sad.

My FIL passed away a year before our first daughter was born, and I know it makes my husband sad that he never knew/met her or our second.

  6. Dale sounds like a fabulous father - I hope he was able to focus on that and not his loss over the weekend.
