D-Day

Let me be honest here. Dale and I have been complete strangers lately. Ok, so it only feels like it. He is busy. I am busy. We are busy doing different things. I am sure we will pick up right where we left off soon. I can't wait for school to be out! I am sure he is the same ol' guy he has always been that I happen to love no matter what.

He is also stressed. Track season is coming to an end. It's only down to his elite few minus one. Let me explain. Apparently Monday at school they let their state bound mile and 2 miler go early because he was done working out and kept the others. I guess someone had been stealing money from him (the kid, not Dale) in the locker room so he set up a way to catch who was doing it. When he found out who it was he set the kids clothes on fire in the locker room in the freakin gym.

The alarms went off. The janitors couldn't find any fire. Dale, his other coaches, and the few kids left working out were still in the building to finish their work out (it was storming outside). They finish their work out, some of the guys head to the locker room to get their stuff and go home. Then they came back yelling the locker room was on fire. My husband's office is also in the locker room. I guess it was bad, really bad!

They didn't know who it was right off hand, but had an idea only to find out later who it really was. A good kid. A senior. His last day being the next day. It was his last day alright. They cuffed him at school in front of everyone and took him to jail. Amazing, just amazing. Not only does Dale not have one of his best athletes no longer on the team, but this kid has to go to jail at the end of his senior year all because of retaliation against another kid. It is sad and Dale is really feeling that.

He tries to be a role model for these kids and create opportunities for them in the future. Then they use poor judgment and do something like this. Potentially flushing a good start at life down the toilet. I don't know how he does it. This kind of thing seems to happen every year. Not the locker room being set of fire, but one of the good ones making a really stupid decision! But that's what I love about Dale. He doesn't let this kind of crap stop him from helping the next kid or even giving up on that one entirely.

  1. That is such a shame. Did you hear about the kid who beat up the 16 year old girl? He was a good kid, excellent grades, but experienced like 3 deaths in 1 month and after being taunted in a text by a girl, found her and beat her so badly she ended up in the hospital in serious condition. The kid, who had a bright future, is not facing charges as an adult, I think.

It's just such a shame. Thank goodness for your husband for giving direction to kids who need it.

  2. That's sad that crap like that happens in schools. And I'm sure it does affect your husband. Hang in there. He's stressed and you are busy and tired. It'll get better. I think all things in life are cyclical...

    better days to come.
