When someone at work that you deal with a hundred times a day answers the phone announcing who they are, as if you didn't know who you were calling and acting like they don't know the person on the other end or are surprised when you say, "Hey, this is Tayarra." By the way, you can see who is calling who. An example…
Person at work: "Major D-Bag, may I help you?" (Ok, so they don't refer to themselves as a Major D-Bag, but I have to keep real names under wraps.)
Me: "Hey, it's Tayarra."
Person at work: "What's up?"
Me: "Blah, blah, blah"
What's the point of doing that? It is so irritating! If you know who is calling you and you work with this person closely all the time, there is no need to try to pull rank or whatever you are doing by answering the phone this way especially when you talked to the person 2 seconds before that and they told you they would call you right back. And don't try to use the excuse that you didn't look at the phone. EVERYONE looks at the phone before they pick it up. It is called screening and you know you do it!!! Of course there are times when this type of a greeting is appropriate, but not in this situation. Can we just get to the point?!
