More Newness!

I woke up this morning feeling excited and fresh even though my hours of sleep were limited because of my own dumb decisions. When you like to sleep so much why in the world would you keep putting it off to get just a few more things done or read one more facebook post, comment one more time, etc. Why can’t I get my butt in bed sooner?! I have to start getting better at that!

Anyway, I posted on facebook last night about Femfessionals. I’m not a sales girl. I tried to think I could jump out of my little box and attempt it with a direct sales sort of company awhile back and quickly found that it wasn’t for me. Femfessionals is completely different for me. As you know, if you’ve been reading and following a while, I have a passion for living my best life (it even kind of annoyed me to type it because I feel like I type it all of the time) and I love to share and encourage others to do the same thing because the feeling I get from that shouldn’t be kept to myself. Everyone should feel this way about life, EVERYONE!!! I’m not the only one with this passion. Femfessionals is all about that. It’s a company of women (I love men, too) that moved on the desire to get women together, let them learn from one another, and then promote each other like crazy.

Think about it, when you are in need of something, let’s say you need to get your hair and makeup done for a fitness show. What is the first thing you do? You think about other people who do that type of work. If you think of them you call them up and ask them if they are available and willing. Maybe they are booked and can’t help you out. What do you do next? You ask them or other friends if they know anyone that could help you out. Then they say, “Yeah, I know Traci and she has a best friend who does makeup. She’s got a really good friend that designs posing suits, too. I also have a friend who just retired and is getting rid of her theme wear." Before you know it you are completely prepared for your fitness show (hopefully the muscles are there too) in a day because of 1 phone call and 1 friend who hooked you up with other friends to get you what you needed. And there lies the beauty of Femfessionals. It is a network of women out there trying to get their brand out and offering services to others.

We will meet monthly for social events or to listen to some great speakers talk about how they became successful and share any tips they have. Quarterly we will have workshops to improve our skills as women in the world. This goes beyond the office. This will enrich us in our everyday lives.

My mind is going crazy with ideas and I have one in the works already to launch us. Actually, I have 11 ideas, which just about plans the whole year. That’s how excited I am for this. You’re not a career women that commutes into the office every day? This is still for you. You can take advantage of every one of these sessions. You have a ton to offer to this group as well. This is the launch of Femfessionals in the KC area and YOU have a chance to get in on it from the beginning and help it grow to the potential it has and beyond. If you are a part of the Journey To The Best Me group on facebook, you know how important and how enriching a group like that is in your life. This is that on steroids – super-duper steroids! Like, if you took these steroids you would look like the Incredible Hulk kind of steroids! (Don’t take steroids unless medically necessary) This could open doors for you that you had no idea even existed. I don’t know if I should post the ideas that are running in my head, but I will anyway just so you can get a taste of what I’m thinking. These are chicken scratch ideas. I have speakers/presenters in mind for almost all of these already.  They may change over time or they may not happen at all, but these are the types of things I’m thinking:

  1. Self-defense workshop
  2. Make-up/Hair
  3. Mountains ahead - What's it like after the climb - a message of survival
  4. Dress for success
  5. Photography
  6. Self-love/confidence
  7. Fitness
  8. Healthy eating and why it’s important
  9. Stepping out of your box
  10. Public Relations
  11. Social Networking/Communications/Marketing
  12. Preparing for next steps – geared more toward our younger crowd.

Ok, I lied, that’s 12 – my year is planned! Another thing that REALLY excites me is how they are starting to focus on college and high school aged ladies. Just think back to where you were as a person in those years. You had the world right in front of you and you are stuck in an odd and a bit uncomfortable place. What are you going to do with your life? What job are you going to get? What major should you pick? How do you step into your career without feeling all NKOTB? (New kid on the block) This is designed to give you a stepping stone. To help you develop a network of women who know women who know women who know women that just might lead to your dream job or to a place where you can express the passions of your life.

So what’s the catch? Chomp onto this big juicy steak - To become a Femfessional member the cost is $100 FOR. A. YEAR as an individual and $240 for a year if you register as a group of 3. The monthly events will be around $30 to $40 depending on the venue and whether there is a meal or not. It also depends on what speakers/experts are featured. As a member you get discounts to the events. BUT…. IN THE MONTH OF JUNE YOU GET A 20% DISCOUNT AND YOU ARE A MEMBER FOR LIFE!!!! FOR LIFE! Hurry up and go register because there is only a week of June left! I think you all could afford $80 for a lifetime membership. I’m really excited about this. It is a completely different feeling. I’m excited to use my passion for a higher purpose and I’m excited to get the networking going. I will be getting my board of directors together in the next few weeks and planning our first event. Look for us on all the social network sites as I work toward that (I still have a very good day job that I plan to keep and those little boys to take care of) and run over to http://www.femfessionals.com/ and click on JOIN NOW to receive the discount you will need to enter LAUNCH for the discount and lifetime membership! If you have any questions or any ideas please let me hear them.

Just as an FYI, when this was first presented to me I had no idea what Femfessionals was. It took me reading through their website and discovering what they were all about and a lot of questions to Yahu to understand just what it all means. What I have learned is that this is an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up. This opens so many doors for me and allows me to really step out of my comfort zone willingly and into something that could be extremely huge in someone else’s life just because I decided to follow my passions and let some light shine on that darker corner of my path. Someone believed in me, which gave me just the push I needed to believe in myself. Welcome Femfessionals to KC!

A little update of the last few days

I have a lot to update on.  I'll start with my diet since the competition has been over...

What is sticking in my diet and what I am letting go of:

  • I’m still not going crazy with the cheese – I’ve had very little of it and I’m still not missing it
  • Milk and sour cream – still out
  • Salad dressings other than Newman’s Olive Oil and Vinegar are still out. If at a restaurant I opt for vinaigrette
  • No white bread still. I really do like all grain bread. I like it better than wheat and you can find it soft. It is really filling and hearty. I try to stick to 1 piece with some peanut butter.  Although I did make a yummy sandwich the other day for lunch, which Dale stole and I had to make another one.  Pretty much a turkey salad on grain bread.  Yummy!
  • Honey has made its drizzly way back to my peanut butter and bananas in the morning on some days
  • YOGURT!!! I pretty much am staying away from dairy except for the yogurt (and ice cream sometimes). So good, I want it in my diet. So some greek yogurt, blueberries, strawberries and a little granola is a part of my breakfast on occasion.  I add the fresh fruit myself to plain or vanilla yogurt.
  • I’m taking it easy on the eggs for a little while. Me and eggs need a break!!!
  •  Keeping the lean meat and quinoa in for sure and the variety of veggies are staying too. My boys will eat them someday, until then “you get what you get and you don’t throw a fit!”
  • My fav veggies lately are sauteed asparagus with just about anything else, red peppers, mushrooms, cabbage. I like roasted and even sauteed cabbage and Brussels sprouts. I made Kale chips a little while ago but haven’t made them since.  They were ok. Addicting but not blow-your-mind good. I am a huge fan of olive oil right now and sea salt. I am really liking strong flavors with some red onion as well.
  • Almond milk is staying around but my store is usually sold out of it lately, which angers me!!!
My weakness - Ice cream on occasion with some Magic Shell!  The stuff is so dang good.  BUT - it puffs me up like no other and each bite = a dimple in my butt.  So that is what I'm using to keep me away from it for the last few days.  That and Dale knows my weakness so he gives me crap about eating it as he should.

Dale is almost there on being ok with the healthier diet. He’s been hitting the gym pretty hard these last few days. It is so good to see that fire in his eyes again!  He's been so supportive of my latest adventure.  Maybe I can talk him into getting out there with us soon.  Ward and Bryce (and any other guys) - come out and I'm sure Dale will too.  Don't be intimidated by us ladies!!

So the group, Journey To The Best Me, WOW!  I never would have imagined that it would take off like it has.  Amazing.  There are really good people out there that are passionate about helping others out and lifting them up.  There are people out there that want to find JOY in life!  I've found a few of them.  They are sharing their stories, their before pictures, their struggles, their accomplishments, and their goals.  They aren't being judged.  They are being encouraged and cheered for.  They are inspiring and motivating and holding people accountable in the most loving ways.  It is such a blessing to be a part of this.  I'm so excited to see what God has planned here.

Some of the locals in the group met up Saturday for a group workout.  Wait.  Backup!  When I finally pulled the trigger and took the steps to get this thing off the ground without a solid plan and without being fully ready I was expecting a few to bite.  I was nervous that no one would see value in what I had in mind, but I had people reaching out to me left and right asking for advice along my own journey.  They were asking me to hold them accountable.  They were pretty much bearing all to me and looking for encouragement and support.  I wanted to help, but I just didn't know exactly what to do or how other than letting them know I would do what I can and we will see where it goes.  I figured I had enough experience in sports and in the gym that I could put some workouts together that I planned to do myself anyway and go from there.  Dale has been beside me the whole time.  He has offered advice and workout ideas and I love it!

So I woke up last Saturday morning nervous like I was getting ready to go run a race.  I guess I was just nervous about doing something like this that I was responsible for and had to make it worth other people's time to be there and I didn't want to disappoint anyone.  I started out the door to walk across the street where we agreed to meet.  I looked over at the parking lot, which was FULL to my surprise.  I thought to myself, "I would schedule people to meet me here when there is a fishing tournament going on."  No, there was no fishing tournament, that was my crew.  WOW!  I was amazed, happy, scared, nervous.  11 women came to workout from all different kinds of fitness levels.  I was so encouraged.

We ran the path, did some hill sprints, some basketball slides up the hill, some lunges, and some walking.  We also started with introductions and little snippets of their stories.  We started and ended with prayer.  I couldn't be happier with how it turned out and I couldn't be happier with the direction the FB group is going.  Just so many good and exciting things.  The pessimist in me wants to say, "now wait, you know that something is going to happen.  The numbers are going to go down.  People will lose their drive, etc."  But, I don't care about that right now.  We are going to keep going and what happens, happens.  We are placing this in God's hands and holding each others through it.  It's awesome!!!

Afterwards I headed home to grab Maddox and ran the trail.  I felt like I needed some soak time after they left and before turning back to mom and wife mode.  I quickly realized how exhausted I was!

***

Later I caught some time in the sun. Just laying, napping, and Pandora. It was equivalent to one of my awesome runs. I just laid there thinking about how crazy and filling the last few weeks of my life have been and how good it felt just to lay there with no guilt and daze in and out of naps. I think there was a smile on my face the entire time. I have little tan lines to show from it, but it felt so good to soak up God’s warmth.

Our 10 year anniversary was Friday as well.  Dale and I got a babysitter and actually had a real date with a movie and everything.  It feels so good to be so comfortable and content with the person in your life.  Things in our lives are never perfect, but I think we both agree that neither one of us wants to go or be anywhere else.  Through my own journey I have held back from sharing my true feelings even with Dale and that wasn't always healthy.  Now that I am further along I can let myself be me and that has drawn us closer together.  A lot I could say there, but I'll leave it at that.  I'm happy and I love laughing with him.

The last 3 weeks especially of my life have been pretty amazing. Finish lines literally and figuratively. Finales to the work I have been putting in. I want to be clear that it wasn’t all rainbows and smiles. There have been plenty of tears. There have been plenty of feelings of frustration, doubt, and sacrifices. I’ve wanted to quit. I've been overwhelmed so many times.  It got hard. Things slipped through the cracks and I had to play Just Breathe over and over and over again listening with my eyes closed. But, I couldn’t give up. I just tried to tip the scales back as much as I could. I’ve gotten my feelings hurt along this process and my temper was shorter than I like it to be. Please don’t ever be naive enough to think that there aren’t going to be trials along the way and that transforming or reaching for goals is going to be a cake walk. It is hard work and it tests just how serious you are about it all. You better be pretty darn serious! The rewards at the end and along the way are worth it all!

My 13.1 Milestone

I don't have a lot of time so this will be quick.  It's not really the race recap I had planned for the run of my life, but I want to get this down before I forget about it.  Ha!

Saturday morning started early.  Let's back up just a little bit.  You  know that little fitness competition I did, right?!  Well, I ate some cheat meals last week and didn't stay as clean on my diet as I should have been.  I said goodbye to those abs real quick.  It wasn't fat, I was just so bloated.  You're welcome!  Anyway I was not feeling the best even though I didn't go crazy.  I was still eating my main meals and clean stuff, but there was left over birthday cake and a little ice cream. I felt like crap!  I was more tired than I've been in a long time.  The food really does matter.

Anyway I got up early and we hit the road.  I had asked Dale to make sure he was near the finish when I was done because I was going to need him.  I pictured an emotional basket case at the finish line with the completion of these 2 huge goals.

I didn't give myself enough time to get there and get settled.  It was pretty much fight traffic, walk forever, then squeeze through a tiny gate to get to my corral and to find my friend from work who was also running.  I had to go to the bathroom again, but there was no way, I was just going to have to go for it and hope for the best.

Mile 1 - 13 = HILLS!  Long, never-ending, horrible hills.  The end.

No really, there were a lot of long gradual hills.  I was ahead of the 1:50 pacer until around mile 6 I think.  I was feeling ok.  Not good, but ok.  It wasn't one of those high five the trees and run with my hands up yelling, "THIS IS AWESOME!" kind of runs.  Have I not told you all I do that?  Oh, well, I might do stuff like that when I'm running.
Before I knew it the pacer was next to us and that is when the self doubt crept in.  I thought I was running faster and we made some distance.  Apparently not!

At one point I think the conversation in my head was, "I hate running.  Why am I even doing this?"

I just told myself to shut it and started singing Our God is An Awesome God over and over and over to myself.  I told myself to forget about everyone else out here and run my race.  Look at the beauty.  Thank God for having the ability to run.  I looked at my leg and started chanting the names of the ones getting me through this race.  They all are fighting much bigger, long, gradual hills than I am.  I can surely just keep moving.  So I did.
I had my time at 1:54:12 and I was late stopping it. The chip timer said 1:56:07, so I really don't get that.  I was a little bit down on myself because my real goal was 1:50 or better.  I did not give this course much credit.  It was hard.  Really, really hard!!!  You can see from above that mile 11 and 12 were horrible.  2 miles up hill.  It was horrible!!!  Do you get they were horrible?!  If I would have gotten my rear movin faster up that last hill I would have had my goal.  I also walked just for a little while at the aid stations to get my chomps down with water.

I'm not taking anything away from myself.  I never thought it would have been that hard.  I was so sore, so I know I pushed my limits.  I was also chaffed.  That felt nice the rest of the day!  I lost my chomps around mile 8.  Thankfully I chewed a little more than normal early on.  That was a lesson learned!  I need a good pair of running shorts that will hold my fuel and not allow chaffing!!!  I will definitely run another one on a much flatter course to see how I really do.  Maybe I'll officially train for that one too.

Just looking back at the splits makes me feel better though.  They weren't as bad as I was thinking they were.  Despite all of that it was amazing.  I did what I could and I praised God for it and allowed those people to keep my spirits up.  I'm so glad I thought to write their names down where I could see them and focus my attention there.  I'm thankful for each one of them and I continue to bring 110% and give back as much as possible for others.

Once we got up the 2 mile hill we turned a corner and there was an extremely steep shorter hill where Elvis stood giving everyone high 5's.  I'm surprised he never got punched.  Once I was over it we went down a long hill and I knew I was almost done.  I didn't pay any attention to my times and splits along the way, btw and I was really ok with that.  I was heading around the corner when the emotions hit me.  I knew the finish line was just up ahead but I had to bear down and finish with all I had, which was close to nothing.  Right before I saw the finish line I heard "MOM".  My boys were right there and all I could do was smile!

I didn't cry until I was in the car on the way to get some breakfast.  I was so thankful for being able to do what I set out to do.  It was over and I didn't feel that let down about what is next.  I was expecting a little grieving, but it didn't come.  I was just so happy to be done and to succeed.  The tears flowed silently over my cheeks and were dried by the sunlight through the passenger window.  I was happy and thankful and hungry and sore!!

My crew!

Our awesome jackets and my big butt. : ).

I'm so thankful for Christa!  She's a new friend of mine and of course it was running that really brought us together.  She's about the only female from work that I can talk crazy run talk with and she loves it!  She helped me believe I could reach my goals and was right there with me.  She ran awesome and I was sad that I lost sight of her before those hills, but so happy with how well she did!

Confession - I have yet to get a workout in since the race.  I'm craving one like no one's business, but things keep getting in the way.  That is probably for the best.  I was going to try to sneak in a quick morning run this morning and only remembered as I was shampooing my hair.  I'm not as sore, but my form on the stairs still isn't pretty!

I can't wait to get back to it.  I did clean up my diet again and those abs I thought I said goodbye to are starting to peek back through.  Thank goodness I didn't ruin them forever!  Food matters!  Did I already say that?

Yesterday on a whim I created a group on facebook.  I've wanted to get some people together for a really long time because so many people have reached out to me for advice and help, but the FB group was new.  I originally wanted to start it for people in my area to use as a way to communicate and schedule workouts that we could meet up and do together, but it took off.  I was a little overwhelmed.  It is now open to anyone who is interested in being their best selves.  I will still use it to schedule workout meet-ups about once a week, but we will also post as much motivation and support for each other as possible.  People are already responding and I absolutely love it!!!  We plan to post what we did together on there and anyone can pick them up and do them for themselves.  I'd like to share encouragement, recipes, and tips about exercises as much as possible.  If you are interested in being an ACTIVE part in that let me know and I will get you added.  It has been amazing so far.  The group is called Journey To The Best Me.

Saturday we are meeting up at the city lake if you are local and want to join 7:15am.  I'm not a personal trainer and I don't plan to be but I have been an athlete all of my life.  We will workout together and support each other as much as possible.  I have a great team of resources as well if you are looking for something more specific and personal.  I can hook you up.  All fitness levels are welcome and all ages.  We all have to start somewhere.  I just ask that you are serious about it and not waste any one's time. Those that have responded are on board 100% even though they are a little scared.  They are willing to start making the endless excuses challenges that they are going to dominate!  We can do this!!!!  And I'm extremely excited about it!!!!

That wasn't too quick and I'm completely out of time.  I'll update soon...

It Was Amazing

That is what you call one spectacular weekend.  A few weeks before competition my sister kept telling me, "Just be like you were on the day of your wedding.  You have never been so beautiful!"

The day of my wedding while sitting in the salon getting our hair done the other customers were coming in asking which one was the bride because they couldn't find the girl freaking out, which is normally so easily tagged as the bride.  I was as calm as I could be.  I'm the middle child and not one that is used to having the spot light.  I like to do my thing and people passively give me a pat on the back later without much fuss.  But, on my wedding day I fought every urge to hide in the shadows and make that THE DAY of my life that I would share with Dale and remember with so much love for the rest of my life.  It was the kind of day that I wanted.  Everything was smooth and calm and beautiful and I embraced the spotlight and the feeling of never being so beautiful.

Saturday can't top my wedding day but it came extremely close.  (FYI - the days I had my babies aren't even in the same ballpark)  I kept waiting for the uncontrollable shaking feeling to emerge from pure nervousness and being scared out of my mind, but it never came.  The only time I lost my composure a tad was when I pinned the #1 MOM pin onto my backstage bag when I was packing up my stuff.  For some reason every time it caught my eye I got teary.  Wyatt gave me this on Mother's Day this year.

Other than that, I kept my composure and the nervous feeling never came.  Friday evening I slipped on a dress that couldn't have been more perfect and highlighted my body perfectly.  I've been a little depressed over losing a lot up top.  I felt hot and beautiful and really wishing I was sharing that night with Dale.  I had a good time meeting new people and enjoying the fact that my sister was getting a lot of honor amongst this crowd.  She shines in her line of work, as she should.

I hit the sack later that night and slept well.  I got my mind set in the morning and up early for hair and makeup.  Wow, that is a new experience.  I didn't offer any suggestions to Loni and let her do her magic.  I was a little freaked at how dramatic the look was, but understood that stage makeup is so much more different than every day makeup.  Seeing pics of myself made me feel a lot better about it.  It was hard not to try to dab it off a bit though.  I'm glad T and Stacy told me to knock it off.  It was so much!

We headed down the street to start our day.  No matter what, I was happy with what I was stepping on that stage with.  I didn't feel quite as muscular as maybe I should have been.  My running schedule and my total ignorant thinking around how to eat like one of these competitors is what led to that, I believe.  Tionna was telling me to have a cheat meal, but it never sank in until a little too late that she wasn't just trying to be nice to me.  I needed a cheat meal so it could build me up and add some volume.  All I can say is when you are going through something like this you need to trust and completely let yourself be free with information between you and your trainer with every single area of you.  You need to be willing to describe everything that is going in and coming out of your body, literally.  She was telling me that, but I wasn't completely getting it until later.

When it was time to go stage side I pumped up in the hall as much as possible and told myself that I had nothing to lose.  OWN IT!  Go out there and let me and T's hard work show.  I did exactly that.  I didn't hold back.  I even got a call-out, which means the judges want a closer look.  During this call-out you really have to show them what you have.  Apparently I didn't quite work it as much as someone else but I'm not harping or fretting on that.  This show is so much more than your physical look.  It is about how you carry yourself and your stage presence as well.

By the time it was ready for the night show some of that adrenaline had worn off.  My head started messing with me a bit because I knew Dale would be out there.  I didn't want to embarrass him and this totally isn't his scene.  I just had to forget about that and go out there and do my absolute best.  I threw my shades on my face and stepped out there hips-a-swingin and popped to the side to strike my 80's Material Girl pose.  I slid my arms up the sides of my torso and posed like no one was watching.  As soon as I did that the crowd cheered like crazy.  I loved it.  I really don't remember anything else I did.  I just knew I had a blast with it!  Later Dale told me how proud he was of me.  That's pretty big for him.

I embraced the spotlight again and didn't hold anything back.  I did the best I could do with what I had at the time.  I got every ounce out of this experience that I wanted to and more.  I did something I never thought I would do.  I lived this experience to the fullest for me making friends along the way.  I took the first steps to talk to others and reach out without fearing rejection.  That is something I needed to let go of a long time ago.  What a freeing thing to do and others respond to that.  Just a truly amazing experience.  One I will NEVER EVER forget and will ALWAYS be thankful for.

Thank you all so much for the messages over facebook, Instagram and the texts.  They kept the waiting time backstage flying by.  There were so many to go through I absolutely loved having so many people by my side.  The girls backstage were amazing.  Everyone helped everyone else.  They shared food, offered hair and makeup assistance, and we created new friendships.  You really didn't have a choice not to get close to these girls when you are basically nude and you all smell disgusting from not being able to use soap for a number of hours. KC Divas ROCK!

Tionna, Stacy, Loni, Monica, our local tanning salon, Fahrenheit Tanz, Dale, my boys, Christen, Cherryh, Lewis, Lyndsey, my mom and dad, GINA, Kenzi, my high school girls, Linda for helping us out so much, and so many of you who reached out to cheer me on.... THANK YOU SO SO SO SO SO SO MUCH!!!!  Hugging you all right afterwords that were there was the sweetest icing on my cake!  I celebrated with French Toast and woke up feeling it in the morning.  Blech!!  I definitely payed for that deliciousness.

T and ZenFit has about 6 new clients starting pronto and I can't wait to see how much T shines through these new clients.  Find her and follow her.  She's doing amazing things.  She will also start serious prep for World's where she is on a mission to make a huge appearance on that stage in VEGAS, baby!

I still have a huge goal I'm striving for this weekend.  Tonight I asked Dale to make sure he is at the finish line of my first half marathon this Saturday.  I have a feeling I might be a slight bit of an emotional mess when I cross that finish line.  I had a tear roll down my cheek this morning just thinking about it.  I've worked my butt off these last few weeks (months) taking myself to places I've never been and doing my best at being the absolute best me I can be.  And no matter what, this Saturday I will be able to say I DID IT!  And I DID IT WELL!

I hadn't ran for 2 weeks and yesterday was a day full of eating whatever I wanted to eat for Wyatt's birthday party celebration.  I thought today's run might be disastrous, but it wasn't.  Another EPIC run in the books.  More on that and the birthday party on another day.

So much love to you all!!!!  Enjoy more pictures!!

Some of Loni (hair and makeup girl for the show and she's unbelievably gorgeous and down to earth) and Stacy's beauty must have slipped over to me.  Plus this is before Loni touched my hair and makeup.  How I look good next to these girls blows my mind.  I think this is close to one of the best pictures of me ever and I totally don't see this when I look in the mirror.  So crazy to me!  Look at Stacy and Loni's shoes.  The picture doesn't do them justice, but aaahhhhSOME!!!!

I don't have any pics of me in my theme wear yet, but I'm sure you will see them once I get some.

My cousin Gina posted this on facebook and titled it BOND GIRL.  I had to verify if it was actually me or not.  It was and SO COOL!!!

Onto another amazing weekend!

Shaved, Plucked, Toned, And Ready

Whew! I’m still so full of emotion, but excitement for this show is right under the surface. I’ve been reflecting a lot last night and this morning about all of this. Like I’ve said so many times before, it is so much more than sweating in the gym and stepping on stage. I’ve learned so much, but the thing I will value the most is the confidence I have gained in my strength as a person. I will never ever be able to tell you all how much the connection with others and the deep relationships I have gained along this process mean to me. I opened myself up. I was vulnerable. I shared my extreme excitement and I have shared my lows and you all have responded and I’m richer for that. We are richer for that! I’ve already won a million times over with the responses I have received from so many people about how my willingness to share my journey has inspired and motivated them to start their own journey. Maybe it isn’t a path to clear heels, a tiny bikini, and spray tans, but it is a journey they will travel to say they are living THEIR BEST LIVES. That’s all I could wish for. If I don’t place, if I never even get called out for a closer look, I’ve already won.

I’m stepping up there and representing you all. The ones that have had my back and cheered me on and let me know it and the ones that kept silent. I wanted my biggest audience to be those moms out there that are at their wits end with how they look and feel and crushing under the intense pressure of what comes with three little letters, M*O*M. I wanted you to know that if I can do it, you can too. You can make it work. You can find immense JOY in YOUR life. You can be YOU and still LOVE them. You can get behind on things, let the laundry, dust, and dishes pile up and it is OK! Your best YOU makes them the best THEM. Just keep trying, moms. Every day you are blessed with, just keep trying. Embrace the hard crap and praise the Lord for the opportunity to grow stronger with EACH and EVERY struggle. Then go freakin dance in the rain when that spontaneous thought hits your mind because that is living. That is living your life with intent and purpose, joy and love. It absolutely does not mean everything is perfect and everything is ok. We all know that isn’t life. We all have a choice of how to deal with what we were dealt.

Along the way I’ve realized it isn’t only moms. Everyone deserves that chance to love their life. Just this week while I was at Wyatt’s field day a little girl in his class came to me and gave me a hug. I don’t know this little girl other than seeing her in Wyatt’s class for parties and field trips. Later she says to me, “I saw you on facebook” I really didn’t know how to respond other than to say YOU did?! Her mom mentioned that she saw my gym pic. I can only hope my image sticks in that little girl’s mind and she grows up knowing that she can be strong and successful if she works hard at it. Maybe she has no clue now what is behind that picture, but maybe someday she will get it. Wyatt also had a play date with a friend who offered him a cupcake in which he responds that I don’t let him have stuff like that. Mind you, that is totally not true, I do let them have stuff like that on occasion, but you better believe they know exactly what is in it and exactly what it does to your body. But him telling his friends that and actually talking about my show coming up means that he is getting it. He is seeing me work hard and running towards goals and I hope my example gives him the fire to do the same things! Even some men have reached out to ask questions and get advice. It’s just awesome! That is all I can say! AWESOME!!!

Last night my mother-in-law shared her thoughts about it with me. It meant so much and was so humbling at the same time. Last year when my sister won her pro card at this show and trained for World’s I really couldn’t have cheered louder. It was such a big deal to me and I was on top of the world excited for her. What a BIG thing she was doing. Now that I’m in the trenches of my own journey it doesn’t seem like SUCH a big deal. I mean, it is something I never thought I would do, but I still get all embarrassed about it when people bring it up and try to play it off like it really isn’t all that big of a deal now that I’m in those shoes. BUT, I have finally gotten to the point where I can say it kind of is a big deal. This was a huge goal to chase after and I did it! (I don’t know of any other way to describe that and I probably didn’t communicate what I wanted to. HUGE awesome deal for others/not so big for me because it is me and I’m just doing what I know to do with some help)

I should be proud of myself. I am proud of myself. This morning I opened one of my devotionals and it started with a little phrase my grandma taught me when I was little:

Here’s the church.
Here’s the steeple.
Open the doors.
See all the people.

I remember her hands as she did the motions. I will never forget her hands and her tiny frame. It was just that little nudge I needed (to send me into an ugly cry) to realize it is ok to be proud of what I have accomplished in a “don’t get so full of yourself” type of way. Her and my grandpa were always so proud of us as kids. I really can’t even imagine how they would be now.

My sister… she is the reason for this. If it wasn’t for her throwing that fastball high and tight (literally taking my boobs off) and challenging me with this goal I can be pretty sure I wouldn’t be at this place right now. She offered her time and has been there for me the whole time coaching me through. It wasn’t always easy and we went through some tough times that brought back some old wounds, but we grew. We learned. I hope we are both better because of it. I really can’t thank her enough. I hope to reward her with getting my ultimate diva on and continuing my pursuit in being the best me for the rest of my life with her love and encouragement by my side. I couldn't refer a better personal trainer who truly cares about her clients (sister aside).  Look for ZenFit coming soon.  She's a pro at transformation!!!

I didn’t do this alone. I had help. I had support. There were times I felt like I asked for help too much and maybe I did. That was probably the hardest part for me is the guilt and stress I put on myself around asking for help. As a mom of small kids we all have to do that sometimes and it is ok. There are people out there wanting you to ask. Actually, even if you don’t have kids and you are trying your very best, it’s ok to ask for help. I could go into a long rant about a lot of people out there that do nothing but take, take, take and never give back, but I won’t. This post isn’t about them. The ones that are jealous because they see me succeeding and they aren’t doing their best in their own lives and accuse me of being “phony” well, this post isn’t for them. The only things I choose not to share about some struggles in my life deal with other people and it isn’t fair to anyone if I sling my side of the stories around dragging someone through the mud. As much as I’ve wanted to sometimes, it isn’t fair and I’m not about that. I want to encourage and lift others up. I want to be true to MY story and the way I live MY life no matter what kind of drama you try to put in it.

Where was I? Oh, this Saturday… I’m ready. I have put in the hard work. I have followed my diet, sometimes not eating as much as I should have, but I was clean. I’m shaved, plucked, toned, and ready. My last workout was yesterday with some finishing touches to the bootay, so it is rest and relaxation until Saturday. Tonight I start my tan. Tomorrow is my day off to pack up, get my food ready for the day, tan again and mentally focus on why I am doing all of this. I’m gearing up to shine. To shine for me and to shine for you! Once I slip my athlete’s meeting dress on it is DIVA t until I wake up Sunday morning and run 12 miles, sweat, stink, probably cry, change at least 2 poopy diapers, check the underwear of the middle one, wipe snot from my son’s nose, pick the booger out of the other one’s, hear about 20 farts, break up fights, feed hungry mouths, clean up 10,000 messes, and pick up a birthday cake all before Wyatt’s birthday party. I’m sure I’ll say hi to my husband sometime in there.

If you are thinking of me, think “carriage, smooth flow, chest up, butt out, smile, lower tummy in, pose until it hurts”, please?!  I will be updating Facebook (my personal page and 5 Sharp Lives) as much as I can and I will also be posting to Instagram (tsharp12) but the reception in the building isn't the best, so I will do the best I can.

You are probably sick of me saying it, but I don’t care…. THANK YOU SO STINKING MUCH FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART THANK YOU FOR SO MUCH LOVE AND SUPPORT!!!!  I wish I could run and jump into each of your arms right after the show.

THANK YOU!!!!

THANK YOU!!!!

THANK YOU!!!!

10 Days

10 days out

I feel stronger than ever and sore. The area I'm still concerned about is my lower abs. They are as stubborn as Weston. Sure they are solid and sure, I have a 6 pack, but dang I want those lines deep and it just isn't happening. It also likes to stick out despite the above. I’m not overly concerned about it. I’m happy with what I will be stepping on stage with regardless.

There is something that just isn’t right this week. All things are not peacefully coming together. I’m behind in a lot of things at home due to ball games and food prep and grocery shopping and Dale working every night when he comes home. Plus, he has a sinus infection. I know that stuff can wait but that area is off. There is laundry in baskets all over my house. Most of them are folded, which is a miracle but I have yet to find the time to put them away. The only time I could actually find the time is when those little monsters are supposed to be asleep.

My head is a little off too. Just old wounds coming to surface. I know the issues, I just have to find a way to deal with them in a healthy productive way.

Speaking of wounds, I was at Wal-Mart last night with Weston and Waylon. We passed an older man who had bibbed overalls on. We never saw his face, but as we were passing him Waylon says, “Hi Papa”. He wasn’t expecting a response. The guy never turned around to address him and Waylon didn’t need that. It was just his 4 year old little way of saying that man reminded him of his late grandpa. My first reaction was sadness. I wanted to cry right there by the light bulbs, but I knew that wasn’t healthy to do. I think once I start crying I may not stop.

Exercise is way more than just making your body physically strong. It works your mind as well. In the process of getting your body fat down and leaning out it searches every part of you. Even those little crevices in your brain where you like to tuck things away to deal with another day.

The workouts are crazy. I think I literally felt every bit of energy drain from my fingertips as I was leaving the gym yesterday. I have given up on doing my hair. No point in doing my hair for the morning when I will soak it over my lunch hour and it will end up in a ponytail the rest of the day anyway. Two more weeks, my work peeps are just going to have to deal with a less attractive, smelly me. Oh, hi, new president that just joined our company! What’s that about first impressions? Oh well.

I know I said I wanted to blog every day, but as you can see that is hard to do with everything going on right now. I will do the best I can. Tonight it is a rush home, eat dinner, and rush out the door to travel about 40 minutes for another ball game. It’s going to be a long night! But, it is Wyatt’s very first machine pitch game and I’m really excited to see how he does.

This is Waylon from his game Monday night.  His uniform is so big and his portly little body just screamed Babe Ruth to me.  So stinkin cute.  His team did awesome for their first game!

The Countdown Begins and my Momma's Day

It’s killer week…. The show is in 12 days. This week I’m hitting it hard in the gym. Well, that’s no different, I guess. I’ve been hitting it hard. But, 12 days. Only one Saturday in-between. I know this is a big commitment, but I want to try to blog every day. It might not be much. Maybe a line or 2 just to check in and let you know how I’m doing/feeling. This week is a busy week if we can actually get some baseball games in. It’s a busy week at work as well. And, Dale leaves for the State Track Meet on Thursday, so solo-parenting it is for me! Yay – ha!

Speaking of, I’m so happy for Dale. He had a small team this year, but a great group of kids. They ended up qualifying 6 kids for State for 4 events. When the 4x1 team found out they qualified they were so excited. One of them was standing my Dale and the other coach when they delivered the news… priceless moment right there. They were so happy. I’m glad I caught a glimpse of that moment. My husband is an awesome coach. I felt you should know. Track State is a pretty special time and one the athletes won’t forget. So proud of them!  They love our boys too.

Mother’s day – I felt loved and appreciated. How a 4 and 6 year old know it is important to make me feel loved blows my mind. They were bringing me “flowers” all day. Waylon came in with some dandelions and some of my mom’s tiger lilies later. So sweet those boys! Dale had to work. That’s what happens when you start your own little business. You have to make sacrifices. I wish I could have helped him, but I had my hands too full. We all had a great lunch together and then went to do our own thing. I missed him, but I was ok with it.

Yes, he looks like me!

I started my day with an outstanding run. I was supposed to do a 15k race, but who can find an actual race at that distance? Not around here. So, I decided it would be my own little race. I ditched my water bottle and GU in my driveway because it would turn out to be my half way point. I ran my hilly 4 mile route as the sun came up. I’ve fallen in love with that way. I got up the steeper hills chanting “plump that bootay” I crack myself up. I added a little extra to it because of the distance I needed for the day. I said hi to the cows and I was feeling great. I got back to my driveway and jogged for a little bit so I could eat my GU and then drink some water I took a picture too.

4.88 miles down

This was my slowest mile, as expected. I ditched my water bottle again as I headed into town. Holding the water bottle when I run just means long and slow to my mind and I wasn’t in the mood to run long and slow. My legs were feeling so good I decided to go with how I was feeling and not really hold anything back worrying about having enough left for the miles ahead of me. I didn’t get anything in on Saturday other than being on my feet the whole day, so I had a lot of stress and frustration around having 2 rest days in the week. Plus, my eating and water intake on Saturday was poor!!! I didn’t eat enough and I didn’t drink enough. I feared Sunday’s run because of that.

As I headed into town I decided to take the routes I liked the best. That worked out well. I saved the cemetery for my last couple of miles. I thought maybe I wouldn’t have the emotional breakdown if it was in my later miles instead of close to the middle. Worked like a charm! I ran up the hill with a smile on my face and I ran through there feeling awesome. Somewhere along the way I muted my app which usually tells me my mileage and my pace every mile, but he shut his mouth long ago so I didn’t know where exactly I was or how my pace was going. Instead of stopping to try to figure it out I told myself I feel good, just go with how well you feel. Don’t worry about the pace. BEST.DECSION.EEEEVVVVEEEERRRRRRRR! I tried to check it coming out of the cemetery and I was around 8 miles. I had 2 miles at the least to get back to the house.

So homeward I went. The good feeling just wasn’t going away. I really couldn’t get over the way I was feeling and I knew my pace was good just by my form. The last hill before the bridge usually has me running like I’m pushing a walker with a broken hip or something, but I flew up it Sunday. I had to stop and get my hidden water bottle in which it hurt to not be moving and back up I went. Down shifted, I had about 800 meters left. Homestretch, literally. I found myself sprinting to my driveway. Felt so stinkin good!!! I did not tell myself one negative thing or doubt myself the entire run. The last 4 or so miles I was chanting Strong Legs, Strong Mind, Strong Core and going through my favorite running verse, Isaiah 40:31.

I stopped my app and was beside myself when I saw that I had just completed 10.34 miles at a 8:26 pace. That may not sound fast to some, but I’m only running twice a week. I’m not in full blown half marathon training and I’m running better than I did at my peak last year.

Breakdown:
Mile 1 – 8:46 – It was 36 degrees and dark
Mile 2 – 8:30
Mile 3 – 8:45
Mile 4 – 8:16 – up the longest and most hated hill. The kind of hill you forget you are even going uphill except for how your body is completely bogged down. It seems flat when your feet are moving. Long incline – those are the killers!!!
Mile 5 – 9:24 – drink, GU, picture
Mile 6 – 8:30
Mile 7 – 8:30
Mile 8 – 8:04
Mile 9 – 8:27
Mile 10 – 8:01

I got my Maddox and stretched in my favorite spot and then headed in to hug 4 jammie wearing sleepy heads (my nephew spent the night). A great start to Mother’s Day. I was feeling it later. I was a little more tired than I expected through church and got cranky because I was hungry right after, but all things that were fixable. I ate a nice big plate of chicken, shrimp, and rice and headed out to celebrate my momma.

Throughout the day my left foot/ankle was hurting. I think it was just tired. It feels a lot better today. I’m not worried about it at this point. I’ve had the same pain in my heel last year, but it isn’t anything worth quitting for.

We stayed too late at my parents and it was loads and loads of laundry to fold and 3 really dirty boys to get showered up and in bed once I got home. As I was getting Wyatt’s bag ready for today I found a Mother’s Day card he had forgotten to give me. I took it back to him and asked why he didn’t tell me about it. He got a really familiar embarrassed smile on his face and said, “That picture… oh my Gosh, it is so stupid. I didn’t want to do that, but teacher made me. So dumb.” As he shook his head.

I laughed hysterically and could NOT get over how much of his personality is just like his daddy’s. He would look at the picture and just shake his head and laugh. I love him. I love that sweet middle one too. And that little one that makes me earn every single bit of this title of Mommy!

Hope you all had a good one too. I’ll check in tomorrow.

Ripples In The Tummy - How To

I woke up exhausted. This week like the weeks previous has been crazy. There really isn’t a break in sight. I’m tired. I can feel my mind getting weak. Weaker moments are slipping in as far as doubts, abilities, just negative stuff. I realize it is my choice to pull it all together and make it happen. Things are getting harder. It is harder to balance. It is harder to have a positive attitude. Our days are packed with things to do right now. It is just an all-around busy time of year for us and packing 2 huge goals on top of that makes the chaos almost unbearable. My mind is playing tricks on me as we are coming down to seeing the light and the finish line. I have a choice to kick or give in. I have to find yet another gear. Kicking used to be one of my specialties!
This weekend's running schedule was tough.  A 5k race for KC Corporate Challenge, which I actually pushed and my 10.88 miles on Sunday before church, which I felt every bit of. I may or may not have cried running through the cemetery again.  Like an ugly cry that I would be embarrassed of if anyone actually saw me.  Hopefully that car I passed at the stop sign didn't notice the tears running down my cheeks.  Tuesday was my rest day this week and that is just too long ago for me. I just need to breathe. Do the best I can and breathe! We will get there. I WILL do this! I CAN do this!

Week by week, day by day, hour by hour, I’m going to get there. I’m just going to breathe!

So, I’ve had a TON of questions about what I’m doing for abs. First of all, abs and my rear end/upper hamstring have been my slowest to respond and my trouble areas. That is where my fat goes. I didn’t seriously start training abs every day until a couple of weeks ago when I got frustrated at the slowness of their progress. I took it upon myself to do every ab exercise I could think of pumping out about 500 plus abs exercises. It was killer and I think jump started things. Then my sister set a plan for me to do something every night with abs. Because they are made up of so many muscles you can work them every day if you choose to. I’ve asked for her blessing in sharing this information. She was all about letting the cat out of the bag. It’s all about helping our fellow men and women get to their best selves, right?!

Here we go. Take notes, come back here and read often, etc. If you want to do this I highly recommend taking some before and after pictures. You will love to see your progress. Let me tell you though, this is a complete package deal. Don’t expect to keep eating all the same crap you may be eating (if you are on the unhealthier side of a diet) and not work your body out in other areas and see results. All of these things work together. Ladies, lifting weights affects a lot of areas of your body. If you are standing up right curling you should be able to feel some of that in your abs because they should be tight to keep you stable. Lunges? You are using your core to stabilize your lunge down and bring that knee forward to take your next step. It all works together.

Here are some pics of before I started ripping on my abs.

Those 2 are purely running and yoga and that was after completing P90x as well.  A thing to remember is the look of your abs could change day by day or actually from morning to night.  Don't get discouraged with yourselves.  So many factors play a role in your tummy area.  Food, stress, posture, etc.  Do your best at controlling all of those factors.  If you slip up, try harder the next day.

So, what I'm doing?

During my workout Tionna usually has me doing some sort of ab workout mixed in with whatever muscle group we are working.  Usually something like hanging leg raises, knees up, or double crunches with a weighted ball.   Later in the night I will take time before bed or when I can get it in to do more.  Monday, Wednesday, Friday I try to do cross body moves to help define the line down the middle of my core.  Tuesday and Thursday I do straight on abs, crunches, heels to the heavens, etc. Saturday and Sunday I do whatever I feel like doing with abs.

I don't have pictures of all of them but if you have questions just ask away.  I will try to explain the ones I do have pictures for.

This first one is pure awesomeness and totally hard.  I felt really accomplished when I finally got this one.  Note:  you may fall, you may lose your balance, you may get really frustrated with how badly your body is shaking.  Breathe, control, push on until you get it.  You WILL get it.

Start out as shown here

Tuck knees

Extend back out to plank and raise up as much as you can.  Really use those core muscles to get you up there.  You want your back straight as if it is up against a wall.  If you aren't there yet, keep trying.

10 reps - 3 to 4 sets

CROSS BODY

There are 3 exercises in this set.  Do 20 on each before you switch to the next exercise.  So, you will do a total of 60 with your right arm, left leg before you switch to do 60 with your left arm, right leg through all 3 exercises.

1.  Rested knee/opposite elbow  (20)
2.  Extend knee - bring it in to meet opposite elbow  (20)
3.  Straight leg raised - arm extended to meet opposite foot  (20)

Rest, Switch arms and legs, Repeat above!
You want to do 3 or 4 sets of these.

#1 - Start with your leg on your knee and your opposite elbow needs to meet your rested knee

20 reps

#2 - Extend your leg then bring it in to your opposite elbow

#3 - Straighten your leg and bring it up to meet your extended opposite arm
When you are down your leg should only be inches off of the ground as well as your arm raised over your head only inches off of the groung.  Bring it all up to meet in the middle and squeeze!

Go take ridiculous amounts of pictures of yourself in the mirror because your abs be poppin!

Another one I do, I think she calls it Bird Dog or something.

Start on your hands and knees.
Ball up - Bring your left arm in to meet your right knee
So, your knee and elbow should be meeting around your belly button.
Extend your arm and leg and REACH as far as you possibly can.  Squeeze that butt and reach with those fingers.
Do 15 to 20 with right arm/left leg
Then switch and do 15 to 20 with left arm/right leg

Make sure you reach and squeeze
Squeeze when you are balled up and squeeze when you are extended.
3 to 4 sets of those, too.

Take a lot of pictures so you have proof you are making progress when you doubt yourself.

BAM!  Rock it, ladies!  Work it, sweat, keep trying and some day you will wake up and not have to try every position achieveable to see one little ripple including coughing or leaning as far back as possible.  Don't act like you've never done it!  You will wake up, lift your shirt and say, "YES!"

Sometimes I forget I have them.  I get to doubting myself and feeling like I'm not good enough to step up on that stage with these girls that have been going through the same things.  Then I lift my shirt and tell myself I'm going to be ready.  I'm so close.  I still have some issues with my lower core muscles.  I'm still working on those hard.  I also need to shape up my lower back muscles and my lower butt/hip area.  I know I am in awesome shape, probably the best of my life, but I have a stage to walk onto nearly naked, so I need a little more work. 3 weeks out, actually a little less than that as far as exercise.  I'm so ready to get this going.  Here we go....

Let me know if you all have any questions.  Go thank T for the awesome info!  Better yet, go hire her!  She will whip you right into shape!
