Time for D
The room wasn't that great and I wanted a massage, but he didn't. Then I wanted to go to the pool, but he didn't. So we stayed in our room and then got something to eat AND THEN were able to enjoy some fireworks (the real kind for all of you with your mind in the gutter.) It was pretty cool and we enjoyed our time together with just the 2 of us.
This year there were no historic hotel plans. I woke up on Saturday and asked him what he wanted to do. Our plans - go eat. Sounds great to me. I may or may not have thrown a little fit about not having any clothes to wear. We took the boys to my parents around 7. Did a little shopping for some stinkin clothes and didn't eat until around 9. I WAS STARVING! And it was GOOD!
Then we went to pick the boys back up and they begged to stay the night, ok Wyatt begged. Waylon whined. So they did, we went back home and decided to start watching a movie around 1:30AM. Smart, I know. So much for sleeping in and taking advantage of no kids. I stayed awake through the whole thing. SHOCKER! It was pretty good. Then off to dream land for the next 6 hours.
I say all of that to say after 14 years together, 7 official, nights like that are perfect for me. We don't need no fancy celebrating or even a card! We just need each other, being us and enjoying ourselves. The only thing I would trade it for is a vacation to Hawaii. Maybe year 10??!!
Thanks for the great night and for all of your help lately, babe! It makes the world of difference to me even if I don't act like it.

D-Day
He is also stressed. Track season is coming to an end. It's only down to his elite few minus one. Let me explain. Apparently Monday at school they let their state bound mile and 2 miler go early because he was done working out and kept the others. I guess someone had been stealing money from him (the kid, not Dale) in the locker room so he set up a way to catch who was doing it. When he found out who it was he set the kids clothes on fire in the locker room in the freakin gym.
The alarms went off. The janitors couldn't find any fire. Dale, his other coaches, and the few kids left working out were still in the building to finish their work out (it was storming outside). They finish their work out, some of the guys head to the locker room to get their stuff and go home. Then they came back yelling the locker room was on fire. My husband's office is also in the locker room. I guess it was bad, really bad!
They didn't know who it was right off hand, but had an idea only to find out later who it really was. A good kid. A senior. His last day being the next day. It was his last day alright. They cuffed him at school in front of everyone and took him to jail. Amazing, just amazing. Not only does Dale not have one of his best athletes no longer on the team, but this kid has to go to jail at the end of his senior year all because of retaliation against another kid. It is sad and Dale is really feeling that.
He tries to be a role model for these kids and create opportunities for them in the future. Then they use poor judgment and do something like this. Potentially flushing a good start at life down the toilet. I don't know how he does it. This kind of thing seems to happen every year. Not the locker room being set of fire, but one of the good ones making a really stupid decision! But that's what I love about Dale. He doesn't let this kind of crap stop him from helping the next kid or even giving up on that one entirely.

I'm glad he made this bet. He really needs to take advantage of it now because I am sure that soon it will be grey! I am secretly wishing that our next child has his skin and hair color instead of my white pasty looking color! I'm dying to get our in the sun here!

D-Day
"Hey. Just wanted to say have a good day and I love you more. Drive safe.
Love always/forever
Dale"
and this one:
"Hello. I hope and pray that you have a good day. Please tell me if there is anything I can to do in the mornings to help your day go more smoothly. Drive safe. I love you more.
Love always/forever
Dale"
Apparently I did not have such a great morning : )!
and this one:
"Hey. How is your day going? Mine is really good. Running was hard this morning but good. Stockdale
died. That was the most wonderful news this morning. It really came at a good time. I prayed all the way
to work this morning. Not going to lie, I'm scared but as we both know it is in the Lord's hands. I know
that I really suck at showing my emotions in front of people, even you, but I want you to know that inside I
am ecstatic. Well I hope you have a great day and a safe drive home. I love you more.
Love always/forever
Dale"
Stockdale didn't really die - the run was just hard on him. I am pretty sure this is the morning I told Dale we were pregnant with Waylon. I love how I randomly went through my email to pick some out and came across this one. It tells you a lot about him.
And then a couple of weeks ago I got one like this:
"Hey. I'm not having a good day. Eye is pissing me off to no end. Started this morning at the house and hasn't stopped since. Also, my fastest girl puked her f-ing guts out at prom because she was drunk. She is expelled and off the team. Anyways, I am going to run when I get home so please allow me to do that without giving me any grief about it. Thanks. Hope your day is going good. I love you more. Drive safe.
Love always/forever
Dale"
This one really made me laugh! I rarely get emails where he is pissed. I graciously responded and told him I wouldn't be giving him any grief for it. We ended up having a great night! I feel like I need to explain the eye thing though. He has been having an issue for awhile now that causes his eyes to twitch for a long period of time. Other muscles start to twitch as well. It really bothers him and he is taking medication for it, but when he gets stressed the medicine hardly helps. Anyway, feel free to pray for that.

D-Day
Time for Dale. He had a track meet last night so he didn't get home until late. Wyatt had been in bed (playing, not sleeping) when he thought he heard his daddy come in. He was so excited to see him. Dale got in, got his dinner ready and sat down to eat. Wyatt was right on his heels. They sat together while Dale ate and Wyatt carried on the most adult conversation with him I have ever heard him carry on. I was messing with this blog and was glad Wyatt was asking all the right questions, all the ones I would have asked him. Things like, "How was the track meet? Did they run good? Did you have a good day at school? Did you get coffee while you were at school?" Dale never drinks coffee so I don't know where that came from. He was also asking the most relevant follow up questions. I was really shocked by the conversation if you can't tell. What a little man he is becoming. He also told Dale at one point in the conversation that he was a good man. My little guy is so smart!
So, what I love about Dale, watching him with our boys! Really, that is enough said.

Dale has nothing to do with this but I love Spring storms as long as there are no tornadoes involved. I love the thunder, darkness, and lightning. I really don't know why. I guess I find it exciting to watch God work in this way.
Last night we got a nice Spring storm. I could really do without the hail too, but if it doesn't do any damage I can take it and the boys love to play in it.
The storm was fast and fierce. It left our driveway flooded in about 5 minutes.
The water is pretty deep there and you can see the collection of hail.
The boys playing in the "ice".
That was quite a bit.
Love the sky when it looks like this.
So, back to Dale. The tornado sirens went off while this storm was hitting. I'm not sure why since there was no warning of a tornado, I guess just because of the damaging storm? Anyway, Dale grabbed the kids and said he was headed downstairs. I asked if he was serious as there was no breaking news of a tornado coming. He said yeah, you stay up here and cook and we will be downstairs. NICE! Don't mind protecting your wife or anything as long as you have something to fill your belly. Wednesday, March 31, 2010
D-Day
Another not so great night at the Sharp household between the hubby and I so again, so glad I picked this day, it is the perfect day. I could blame it all on him and make him look like the bad guy but he isn't. Blah, blah, blah, he said one thing, blah, blah, blah, I held it against him for the rest of the night. Mature I know. I will make it up to him. I am not perfect! This weather and the awesome lunch I just had have really lightened my mood. Thank goodness!!! So, I am up for a light hearted post about why I love Dale so much.
Ready? He never stinks!
This guy could go out and work on the truck for 5 hours in the sun getting grease and all kinds of other gross crap all over him, then come home and go for a 3 to 4 mile run, and then go do some sit-ups, then mow the yard, and he still doesn't stink. How is that even fair? I get a little nervous at work, get a little sweaty and I feel like I have to go wash up in the bathroom. But, I am completely serious, he doesn't stink. I don't ever remember a time when he has stunk. It's a good quality to have. He might taste like salty sweat but he doesn't stink and I'm not repulsed! So, there you have it! If you were in a bad mood, I hope this lightened it a little! If not and you live around KCMO, GO OUTSIDE! BEAUTIFUL!

D-Day
He mentioned having this feeling when we were at the doctor visits when I was pregnant with both boys. It was the 20 week appointment that brought this feeling back to him. I'm not sure why finding out the sex of our babies would make him so nervous, but it did both times. On our way to find out what Waylon would be I told him I was excited to find out and he said he felt like he was getting ready to run a 400.
I love what a good coach he is and what he puts into it. He cares about the kids and their success and he trains them hard. He puts his heart into it and gets the same feelings today that he use to get when he was in their shoes. I think that says a lot about him. I love that we have the love of sports in common especially when it comes to track. You won't run across too many people that would be willing to hang out at track meets all day, but we would pick that over a lot of things if given the chance. It was something we both did well at and loved. I'm glad I get the chance to continue to enjoy the thing that really brought us together in the 1st place.

D-Day
Wednesday ... I knew I picked the right day for these posts!
So on Tuesday nights LOST comes on and my husband goes into this LOST trance. I like the show and enjoy the twists and turns, but this man LOVES it. I usually get side tracked and don't get to catch it all because I am scurrying around trying to keep the volume at a medium to low level on the boys, which is usually a failed task. So, I end up, well, lost!
If something like last night happens where Waylon decides to cry and scream because he is jealous that Wyatt is in my lap getting mommy attention because he doesn't feel well, our house turns into a battle zone of trying to find the flippin binki and doing anything and everything to get him to calm down so daddy can hear his show while he sits there in a trance only breaking it to give someone a dirty look because he can't hear.
Let's just say it doesn't turn out well. Actually it turned out pretty cute for Waylon and Daddy, but not for Daddy and Mommy. Waylon ended up falling asleep sitting with daddy in his chair with his little binki and blankie. His head kept bobbing back and forth for awhile until Dale laid it back. If I would have gotten over my hissy fit I would have grabbed a picture of it, but I was too caught up in my anger.
I am in need of taking a step back and realizing once again why I love this guy so much.
He does things for me. He does his own laundry every week and pretty much always has. Going from 7 loads of laundry in a week down to 5 (not counting the every other week occasional blanket cleaning) this makes a huge difference. I appreciate it so much. On Saturday mornings he fixes the boys breakfast. Then he will usually clean the kitchen; putting dishes in the dishwasher AND wiping the counters off. Usually his definition of cleaning the kitchen is putting things in the refrigerator, which I also appreciate. On Sundays while the boys and I are visiting my parents he picks up the house and fixes himself dinner. If I really need it he will run the vacuum as well. He is great and thoughtful about doing things like this when he knows I need them done, but just don't have time.
He is also good at realizing I have reached my limit of stress and he will take action on it during the week. Like the great move he did last night once his show was over. He CLEANED the kitchen; put all of the dishes in the dishwasher and wiped the counters. Then let psycho dog out and fed her (usually my job since I was the one who ruined Christmas by getting her, I thought I would be the one to be taking care of her all of the time.) Good move, Dale. Love you babe!

D-Day
I have determined that today, Wednesday, is D-Day. A day dedicated to my husband because I am far from giving him enough credit. Dale means the world to me. He is another part of me. I really would be lost without him. So each week as this day passes I will give you a little insight on what I appreciate about my Dalie Do. (Don't ever call him that!)
Dale does all of the "outside" work. He loves to mow and trim and he is REALLY good at it. Our yard looks professionally mowed every week and I love it. He takes the time to trim it and blow the grass from places it shouldn't be. This isn't a small task. We have a big yard!
He also shovels ALL of the snow and blades our driveway. He loves to do that as well. He loves to do outside work so much that he bought himself a bobcat this summer. Anyone needing some work done in the KC area… let me know. We really need to get some extra income to cover that expense and afford for him to buy a vehicle that can pull it around. I hate the cold unless I have tons of clothes on and can work up a sweat sledding; otherwise, I stay my cozy rear inside!
He does our landscaping too, true, it isn't much right now, but we will get there. That project gets expensive really fast. But so far I love my walkways and benches out the front door. Those 10 plus years at the landscaping company really paid off!
So, that's your insight for this week. You didn't think I would give you everything at once did you?
